Should We Remove the Dates From Our Blogs Posts?

time stamp on blog

The other day I was blog hopping and commenting on other blogs and noticed something that I had not paid much attention to before.

I noticed that quite a few bloggers did not have the date displayed next to their blog posts.  I decided to do some research and found that approximately 30% of the blogs I visited did not have the dates displayed on their blog posts.  At first I found this kind of strange so I decided to research the reasons bloggers may want to remove the date from their blog posts.

The theory behind this idea is to focus on timeless content.  That is content that will be useful tomorrow, next week, next month, and maybe even next year.

My question then became, should I remove the date from my blog posts?

There are many top blogs on the Internet that Do Not have the date on their blog posts:

How Much Content Should I Giveaway On My Blog?

confused about blog

I recently received an email from a reader with a great question, so I thought I would share it with you and get your opinion.

The question was “As a blogger, where do I draw the line of how much free content I should put on my blog versus creating and charging for a content packed e-book?  Should that ebook be exclusive information that is not posted on my blog or should it be an edited and nicely formatted version of my best posts?”

What’s your opinion about this question?

Are you Tired of Spam Blog Comments?

get rid of blog comment spam

Are you sick and tired of logging in to your WordPress dashboard and seeing all those Spam comments?  I know that I am sick and tired.  I take the time to go through them all to make sure I do not delete a valid comment and it is sooo time consuming.  So, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Spam is the scourge of the web. This junk has no place in your blog.

What Are You Going To Do Rick?

I’m sure that’s what you are thinking.  If you’re not, you should be.

I searched high and low for a solution that would ensure my readers and commentors would not leave a comment.  I know a lot of people really hate entering a captcha answer after entering their comments.

I have made the decision to install a plugin called TanTanNoodles Simple Spam Filter.  I have been delaying this for several weeks but enough is enough.

I think this solution will really work well.

How Does This Spam Filter Plugin Work?

how to handle negative commentsAs a blogger, if you have not received any negative comments about one of your blog posts…You Will!

You need to understand that not everyone is going to agree with you…and that is okay.

You can not take negative comments personally.  If you do, it will drive you crazy.

Negative Comments Can Be A Good Thing

Believe it or not (you should believe it), negative comments are a sign of growth of your blog.  As your blog gets bigger and more popular, you will also see a growth in negative comments.

This does not mean that you should try to piss off your readers.  You have to remember that you can not please everyone all the time, so you should not even try to do so.  There will be a diverse group of readers that comment on your blog and that is good for you.

Negative Comments Can Encourage Good Discussion

I think you would agree that your blog would be boring if every reader commented “Great post, I love what you have written”.  Having negative comments only encourages converstation and not just between you and the commentor but with all your readers.  You will find that many of your readers will defend your position and many of your readers will not.  The negative comments will bring readers from both view points to post their comments about the issue.
