Let me recap what I have done so far.

To begin with I purchased my domain name, MarketingWithRick.com, from GoDaddy.com for $7 (this is for one year of owning the domain name).  I found a coupon online to save $3 off the list price.

Next, I set-up my hosting with HostGator.com and then changed the nameservers over at GoDaddy.com with the server information from HostGator.com.  It was not as bad as it sounds.

Once I did that, I then installed WordPress onto the main directory of MarketingWithRick.com.

I installed some free WordPress themes and finally chose the one you see now.  It is highly possible I will change it again in the future.

After installing the new theme, I then installed a few plugins.  I am currently using All-In-One-SEO, Google XML Sitemaps, MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer, Theme Tester, What Would Seth Godin Do and Wicket Twitter Widget. I will install others as I go along but I thought these are a good start.

I change the permalink structure to the custom structure of %category%/%title%.  This will show the category and page title to the domain MarketingWithRick.com.

I also created a Twitter account…http://www.twitter.com/Rick_Byrd. Check it out and follow me to stay in touch. Then give my new website a tweet to help get the word out about what we are doing.

Lastly, I created a Google Analytics account so I can track the stats of the blog.

I probably spent about 6 hours getting to where I am at now.  I realize that the time I have spent so far is an investment into my online business.  I’m laying the foundations of a strong business with the actions I‘m taking.

What’s Next?

Next, I need to set-up an autoresponder account.  I am going to use GetResponse.  AWeber is also another great autoresponder to use.  Then I need to get the code from GetResponse to create a name and email capture form to put in the sidebar of the website.

I also, need to start working on building my list.  I will do this by using several different techniques.  I will use forum posting, doing trackbacks, leaving content filled comments on other blog posts and using social websites.  In the future I plan on creating several content filled e-books to give away and also article marketing.

Til next time,

- Rick
