drive free rafficThe other day I had a reader that is not in the Alex Jeffreys coaching program email me and mentioned that I referred to Oil Rig Hopping in my post about How I Drive Traffic but he did not know what it meant.  At that point I realized that I did not explain what oil rig hopping is, so I thought I better create a post to explain exactly what it means.

So, What is Oil Rig Hopping

Sorry but this has nothing to do with the recent oil rig explosion in the Gulf Coast.

Oil Rig Hopping is the process of getting free traffic to your blog and who doesn’t want free traffic, right?

My coach and mentor, Alex Jeffreys, uses this analogy when providing a way to drive traffic to your site.

Here are the basics of the analogy.  An oil rig attracts algae, algae attracts clams, clams attract small fish, small fish attract big fish, big fish attract bigger fish, bigger fish attract sharks.  Of course you cast your line(s) with you hook and bait to catch the fish.  You ultimate goal is to catch the granddaddy of them all the shark.

How will this help drive traffic to my blog?

Your blog is your oil rig.  You need to first post content (algae) that will be valuable to your readers.

Oil rig hopping starts by you visiting other blogs within the same niche as yours and leave valuable comments (clams) to help the readers of that blog.  These comments (clams) will start to attract readers (fish) to your blog.  Some of those fish will be small fish (readers only), some will be big fisher (subscribers), some will be bigger fish (customers) and some will be sharks (Joint Venture partners).  Your job is to provide valuable and free ebooks or audio interviews or video guides or whatever (your hook and bait).

This is an easy, organic way to grow your traffic and start getting subscribers, customers and JV partners.

You have to remember to continue to keep posting good content (algae) on your blog to continue attracting fish.

Do you think this process can work for you?
