How You Can Avoid Being A “Pinged” Spammer

by Rick on March 29, 2012

Pinged?  What does that mean?

What is pinging?

In today’s video I share with you what is pinging, how you can avoid excessive pinging, and a look at several free tools you can use to automatically save your WordPress blog from sending excessive pings.

Again, I must apologize for the problems with the audio on the live shots.  I need to get a new microphone, which I will get before my next video.

One of the plugins I mentioned in the video was the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer.  You can download it by clicking MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer.

I look forward to your comments and chatting below.

Hi Rick,

I use MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer and have been for some time now. We need to make sure we install something to stop over pinging as like to you said we’ll become known as ping spammers and we don’t want that at all.

Glad you mentioned pingler as I’ve just started using it, thanks to Adrienne :)

Thanks Rick, I’ve added this post to the challenge page now :)

Take care,
Barry

@Barry Wells,

Pingler is a great option for pinging. I use Pingler whenever I want to ping other sites like my web 2.0 properties and social bookmarks.

Take care!

I wrote a post some time back on this exact same subject Rick. I had people asking me what is pinging so that’s just an invitation for a post.

I’ve been using MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer myself for a good while now. I admit not having known about all of this when I got started so you’ve done a wonderful job of walking us through how to set everything up.

Sorry I’m late getting by here since I know this was part of Barry’s challenge. Great ending to it that’s for sure because it’s a great topic newbies still aren’t familiar with.

Thanks Rick and hope everything is going really great for you.

@Adrienne,

Thanks for stopping by and the kind words.

Yes, pinging is something that many people miss that can really help their sites get noticed but over pinging can create problems.

You are always listening to your readers and that is why I enjoy your site.

Continue staying on the pulse of your readers!

I don’t believe in pinging because if you have quality content hen their is no need to ping anything.

Rick April 23, 2012 at 9:28 pm

@Asher,

I can understand what you are saying. If you post quality content on a daily basis then your site will probably be crawled faster. Pinging helps get that process started for those sites that need it.
